Jodie Darmanin is an Associate at Mifsud & Mifsud Advocates, specialising in Maritime Law & Shipping.
As a maritime lawyer, Jodie provides legal guidance and advice to ship owners, ship financiers, and ship operators facing a wide range of maritime issues. Jodie’s expertise includes assisting clients with the sale and acquisition of pleasure and commercial vessels, as well as facilitating their registration and deletion with the Maltese Authorities.
In matters concerning the registration, sale or acquisition of vessels under the Maltese Flag, Jodie is dedicated delivering an efficient and professional service, upholding the highest industry standards. She further assists ship owners, employers and crew members in matters pertaining to crew employment. This involves drafting Seafarer Employment Agreements and providing legal advice concerning their employment on board the vessels.
Furthermore, Jodie offers guidance to ship owners and Ship operators in various cases of maritime litigation. Jodie has represented clients in cases before the Superior Courts of Malta including cases relating to the arrest of vessels, salvage operations, pilotage and towage.
Beyond Jodie’s focus on Maritime and Shipping, Jodie also assists clients with debt collection and guides clients throughout the entire process including in the drafting of judicial letters, garnishee orders, tracing deposits in Court, and providing legal counsel on withdrawals from Court-held funds.
Jodie joined Mifsud & Mifsud Advocates as a Legal Trainee in 2021. She was admitted to the Maltese Bar and granted her warrant to practice as a lawyer in 2023, after she obtained her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree in 2021 and her Master of Advocacy in 2022 at the University of Malta.
